Biography
Sumayyah is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. Previously, she graduated from UC Davis with a double bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Psychology. She believes that with the right intentions, therapy can be a powerful space to work through everything from personal growth and development to major mental health struggles.
Sumayyah primarily approaches therapy from a psychodynamic and relational lens, which includes an exploration of how various life experiences, environmental factors, and relationships have shaped how an individual lives and functions in their daily life. She incorporates elements of polyvagal theory, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), and person-centered therapy in her sessions.
