Biography

Sumayyah is a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee who is currently in the final year of her counseling psychology masters program at Santa Clara University. Previously, she graduated from UC Davis with a double Bachelor’s degree in human development and psychology. She believes that with the right intentions, therapy can be a powerful space to work through things ranging from personal growth and development to major mental health struggles.

Sumayyah primarily approaches therapy from a psychodynamic and relational lens which includes an exploration of how various life experiences, environmental factors, and relationships have shaped how an individual lives and functions in their daily life. She incorporates elements of polyvagal theory, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), and person-centered therapy in sessions.
