Biography

Shaima Aljawfi is a doctoral practicum student at Khalil Center. She recently earned her master’s degree in clinical psychology and is currently pursuing her Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at National Louis University. Shaima’s experience includes working in an inpatient hospital, where she provided Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) to a diverse range of patients. This role allowed her to work with children, adolescents, and adults facing various clinical concerns, including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, trauma, and personality disorders. Additionally, she gained clinical experience in the Middle East, offering mental health services in a special needs center and hospital settings. Her work in Qatar enabled her to develop a culturally sensitive and religion-focused approach to therapy, particularly with Muslim clients. Shaima is currently a teaching assistant for several doctoral classes at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where topics related to diversity and multiculturalism are integral. Her research interests include Muslim and refugee mental health. She also serves as the Multicultural & Diversity Chair for the Illinois Psychological Association of Graduate Students (IPAGS).
