Biography
Farhad Syed, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist and serves as the director of the NY branch of Khalil Center. Farhad has a variety of experience working in university settings, community mental health settings and others, with experience in working with individuals from across the lifespan. He has completed his postdoctoral fellowship in university mental health from Yale University with a clinical focus on Muslim university students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also completed his predoctoral internship in university mental health at the University of Connecticut, where he worked with a diverse group of university students from a variety of racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Farhad has received his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois.
Additionally, Farhad has been a part of the Khalil Center since 2017, initially participating as a volunteer and research intern, and now as a clinical psychologist providing psychotherapy, psychodiagnostics, and community education. In his clinical capacity, Farhad has extensive training in Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy (TIIP), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Psychodynamic psychotherapy. All of these modalities inform his clinical practice and approach to understanding the psyche (soul).
Farhad is a Hāfidh of the Qur’ān and graduated from the Jamiah Qurania Academy in Jamaica, Queens. He has also completed the Shaykh Al-Hind program at Darul Qasim, where he strives to deepen his knowledge of the Islāmic intellectual heritage. He is currently continuing his academic journey part-time but seeks to broaden his understanding and knowledge base, both personally and professionally as sourced from the Islāmic tradition.
