Biography

Dr. Giwa is a therapist who specializes in working with young and older adults individually, as a couple, or in group settings. Dr. Giwa obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from The University of Georgia and a Master’s degree in Clinical Neuropsychology from The University of Texas at Tyler. He went on to Wright State University in Ohio to earn his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Health, Rehab, and Neuropsychology (HRN). He also completed his Clinical Health Psychology Internship at the Texas Valley Coastal Bend Veteran Affairs Medical Center. He is currently completing a post-doctoral fellowship and continues to be a student of the Quran and Islamic knowledge as he works with Muslim families and underserved communities.

Dr. Giwa is a culturally diverse clinician, who has an open-minded, nonjudgmental, integrated, and research-informed approach to therapy and addressing client needs. When working with clients, he believes that many psychological issues originate from a combination of learned and reinforced behaviors which are responses to environmental factors. He addresses the cognitive, affective, physical, and behavioral effects on one’s mental health from a Biopsychosocial-Spiritual framework while using evidence-based practice (EBP) that suit the client’s needs. His training and work experiences in community mental health, integrated primary care, and neuropsychological testing in outpatient and inpatient medical settings, counseling centers, and private practice has strengthened his appreciation for an integrative, holistic approach to treatment.
