Biography

Abeer Shahid is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) registered in the state of Illinois. She holds a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University, where she developed a strong foundation in evidence-based, trauma informed, and culturally responsive therapy. Abeer is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and skilled in working with people from diverse cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Sessions with her consist of a balance of gentle challenges, curiosity, humor, and unconditional support to create a collaborative and non-judgemental environment. Abeer believes in empowering her clients to find fulfilment and agency in their lives as they explore their greatest hopes and challenges in sessions. She has experience in helping clients navigate identity-related concerns, life transitions, depression, anxiety, grief and interpersonal dynamics.

Abeer is deeply passionate about increasing access to and destigmatizing mental health services, particularly for BIPOC individuals and those with marginalized identities. Abeer specializes in working with clients who grapple with feelings of otherness, the intersection of their identities, and systemic challenges, with a focus on Muslim and South Asian mental health.
