From Worrier to Warrior: Managing Anxiety

A 4-week ONLINE skills group to help adolescents work through anxiety experienced in the daily struggles of life.

Teens will be taught an array of skills to cope with unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. The result is positive changes in daily life with improved relationships, emotion regulation, mindfulness, decision-making and self-esteem.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a form of therapy designed for people who experience emotions very intensely. This particular anxiety skills program is designed to help adolescents who struggle with regulating emotions.

Objectives:
  • Educating participants about the core principles of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness from an Islamically integrated perspective.

  • Helping participants identify and understand their own emotional triggers and patterns of behavior that may be impacting their well-being and relationships.

  • Teaching participants specific skills and strategies for managing intense emotions, including mindfulness, deep breathing, and self-soothing techniques.

  • Helping participants identify how to incorporate Islamic values and principles in their life as a God-conscious believer.

Skills Group Schedule

DBT skills aim to help enhance your child’s capabilities in day-to-day life. This group will consist of 4 weekly modules, with each module covering a specific DBT skill as outlined below.

Mindfulness

This is the practice of being fully aware and focused in the present instead of worrying about the past or future.

Week 2

Distress Tolerance

This involves understanding and managing  emotions in difficult or stressful situations without responding with harmful behaviors.

Week 3

Interpersonal Effectiveness

This means understanding how to ask for what one wants and needs and setting boundaries while maintaining respect for yourself and others.

Week 4

Emotion Regulation

This means understanding, being more aware of and having more control over your emotions.
