Biography
Ambreen Yousaf is a Registered Psychotherapist and the Manager of Operations at Khalil Center Toronto. She is Registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
She earned her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University after completing her Honors Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and World Religions and Cultures at the University of Western Ontario, with a focus on Islamic Studies.
She has training and experience in a variety of modalities, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), as well as psychodynamic therapy. At Khalil Center, Ambreen is expanding her expertise in Traditional Islamically Integrated Psychotherapy (TIIP) under the supervision of Dr. Fahad Khan. She is able to comfortably address a wide range of clinical and psychological concerns such anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma and PTSD. Ambreens approach to therapy is best described as integrative and client-centred – therapy is adjusted to clients needs. She believes that a strong, genuine, and compassionate therapeutic relationship, rooted in trust, is one of the most important elements of therapy. Authenticity, reflection, and unconditional positive regard for her clients forms the foundation of her practice.
In 2019, after the Christchurch Mosque Shooting, that killed over 51 Muslims and injured 40, Ambreen was part of the initial first responders mental health crisis team to offer psychological support to the New Zealand Muslim community. She provided trauma-focused workshops and single-session support groups for the Muslim communities and individuals in Auckland, Palmerston North, Wellington and Hamilton that were impacted by this tragedy.
Ambreen is passionate about community development and education, and is dedicated to advocating for vulnerable populations through support groups, workshops, and speaking engagements on various mental health topics within the Muslim community.
