The employee shall work in the capacity of a Director of Development. The main goals of the position are to garner support for Khalil Center by developing strategies to help fund Khalil Center's programming, inform organizational best practices, and manage relationships with stakeholders/partners reinforcing the financial sustainability of the institution.
Develop and execute Nonprofit's annual fundraising plan with calendar event of tasks scheduled out in advance with an associated timeline for the completion of milestones and activities.
Foster a spirit of philanthropy within the organization.
Maintain relationship with Zakat Foundation (Umbrella entity of KC).
Writing and tracking grant proposals and reports for all ZF foundation grants.
Develop fundraising programs using various modalities of generating financial support for KC including but not limited to, crowdfunding, private donations, Jummah/Ramadan collections, foundational grants, private donation dinners, large fundraisers, etc.
Devote a considerable amount of the month of Ramadan to fundraising initiatives.
Coordinate fundraising special events.
Break up fundraising efforts by program/campaigns for specific KC programming.
Oversee fundraising database (donor management system) and tracking systems.
Manage the logging and processing of donations.
Heading and executing annual appreciation/benefit dinners.
Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them.
Build relationships with community stakeholders & donors to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about the KC with the community.
Get staff excited and involved in helping fundraising drives and efforts.
Engage volunteers for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices.
Manage Marketing and Events team to insure success and coordination overall in external relations.
Increase visibility of KC in the community through securing attendance and representation of KC at large scale
Muslim conventions and events ex. ISNA, ICNA, etc.
Creating and executing a strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors.
Maintain relationships with donors by meeting them, giving updates, thank you letters, tax-deductible receipts, intermittent emails etc.
Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
Assessing and advising on financial sustainability model of organization.
Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts.
Ensure timely and accurate report deliveries to funders.
Production of annual report.
Advice development and implementation of best practices across sites.
Availability to travel to different cities & KC locations at least every other month to meet potential stakeholders or collect funds.
Minimum of 4 years of fundraising experience with a track record of success in revenue growth and with a diversity of experience institutional (foundations, government and corporate) and individual (annual fund and major gifts) channels.
Minimum of Masters degree in Marketing, not for profit management, fundraising or a related degree.
Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
Have good interpersonal and communication skills. Have the capacity to do some public speaking about organization.
Be very well organized, disciplined and manage multiple tasks considering order of priority.
Have some familiarity with the field of mental health and an Islamic studies background preferred.
Demonstrate an understanding/willingness to learn and identify with KC's mission/vision.
Have experience in working with the Muslim community preferred.
Possess outstanding social skills and demonstrate the ability to create a contagion of excitement surrounding visionary projects.
Demonstrate an ability to work independently with little supervision.
Have knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
Though this position will require some travel within Chicagoland and out of the city, the DD will have office hours and will work out of the Lombard office branch. He/she may need to leave the office frequently but will have office space where all of their activities will be planned. Additionally, the DD will keep regular contact with ED, informing him of his/her progress and activities. This job requires 40 hours per week. Hours of work are flexible and can be arranged before hire). Once a month on Sundays, DD is expected to attend staff meetings (1-2 hours). The coordinator will be required to spread out their hours over a minimum of 5 days. If required to travel outside of Chicagoland, he/she will be given the following week off.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
This will be a full-time salaried position with 2 paid weeks available for vacation in a given year, statutory holidays and two Eids off. An additional 2-week unpaid vacation is provided. Comp hours can be used toward the unpaid 2 weeks in order to reach a total of 4 weeks PAID. The DD will be expected to be available for work 40 hours a week spread out over a minimum of 5 days.
Salary TBD based upon experience/education.
